Q. Sodium chloride has a crystalline structure made up of $Na^{+}$ and $Cl^{-}$ ions. Why does NaCl not conduct electricity in solid state?

NTA AbhyasNTA Abhyas 2022

Solution:

Sodium chloride has a crystalline structure made up of $Na^{+}$ and $Cl^{-}$ ions but NaCl does not conduct electricity in solid state as due to electrostatic force of attraction, the ions do not move when electric current is applied in solid state.
