Q. Slaked lime and chlorine reacts to produce :

Solution:

Bleaching powder $\left( CaOCl _{2}\right)$ is produced when $Cl _{2}$ gas acts upon dry slaked lime $\left[ Ca ( OH )_{2}\right]$
$Ca ( OH )_{2}+ Cl _{2} \longrightarrow \underset{\text{calcium oxychloride}}{CaOCl _{2}+ H _{2} O}$
Commercially it is manufactured in specially designed plants-Hasenclever plant or Bachmanns' plant.
