In a growing or expanding population, the number of pre-reproductive individuals is very large, number of reproductive individuals is moderate while post reproductive individuals are fewer. In a stable population, the number of pre-reproductive and reproductive individuals is almost equal whereas post reproductive individuals are fewer. In declining population, proportion of reproductive age group is higher than pre-reproductive age group. Number of post reproductive individual is also sizeable.
