Q. Same force acts on two bodies of different masses 3 kg and 5 kg initially at rest. The ratio of times required to acquire same final velocity is

KEAMKEAM 2007Laws of Motion

Solution:

From Newton's second law
$ \, \, \, \, \, \, \, \, \, \, \, \, F = \frac{dp}{dt} = \frac{mv}{t} \Rightarrow t = \frac{mv}{F}$
$ \Rightarrow \, \, \, \, \, \, \, \, \, \, \frac{t_1}{t_2} = \frac{m_1}{m_2}$
Given, $m_1$ = 3 kg , $m_2$ = 5 kg
$\therefore \, \, \, \, \, \, \, \, \, \, \, \frac{t_1}{t_2} = \frac{3}{5}$
