Q. Root nodules for nitrogen fixation in non leguminous trees are produced by species of the genus

Chhattisgarh PMTChhattisgarh PMT 2007

Solution:

A number of dicot non-leguminous higher plants also contain root nodules with the ability to fix nitrogen. The root nodules are formed as a result of symbiotic association with Actinomycetes belonging to the genus Frankia. The host plants of these include trees, shrubs and herbs including Cosuarina equisetifolia, Almus, Hippophae and Ceanothus.
