Q. Respiratory Quotient (RQ) is denned as

AMUAMU 2005

Solution:

Respiratory Quotient is defined as the ratio of volume of carbondioxide evolved, to the volume of oxygen consumed per unit time per unit weight.
$RQ =\frac{\text { Volume of } CO _{2} \text { evolved }}{\text { Volume of } O _{2} \text { absorbed }}$
The RQ depends upon the nature of the substrate, which is oxidized in respiration.
