Q. Reduction of aldehydes and ketones into hydrocarbons using hydraiene and sodium ethoxide is called
BHUBHU 2008
Solution:
Carbonyl group is reduced to alkyl group by means either Clemmensen reduction $ (Zn-Hg/HCl) $ or Wolff-Kishner reduction. $ (N{{H}_{2}}N{{H}_{2}}/{{C}_{2}}{{H}_{5}}ONa $ . Here carbonyl groups is reduced by using hydrazine and sodium ethoxide, thus it is an example of Wolff-Kishner reduction.
