IUCN maintains a Red Data Book, in which list of endangered species of plants and animals has been given. This book has pink pages for critically endangered species. In Red Data Book, prepared by DOE, Government of India, 435 species of endangered plants have been listed. Some common endangered plants are Aerides crispum (orchidaceae), Atropa acuminata (solanaceae), Dioscorea sp. (dioscoreaceae), etc.
