Out of two $( C = O )$ group, NA. reaction with $C _{2} H _{5} O ^{\Theta}$ will take place on the more reactive $(C=O)$ group, containing EWG $\left(- NO _{2}\right)$, Thus the same $C ^{6}$-atom will migrate to other $( C =O)$ group, giving $\alpha$-hydroxy acid.
