Q. Pteridophytes are more advance than bryophytes. Which of the following features of pteridophytes justify this statement?

NTA AbhyasNTA Abhyas 2020

Solution:

Pteridophyta are considered to be advanced than Bryophyta members because of the following reasons:
1. Sporophytes, rather than gametophytes, are the predominant phases in the life cycle.
2. Development of vascular tissue for conducting water and food in the terrestrial environment.
3. Differentiation of the sporophytic plant body into roots, rhizomatous stem, and foliage leaves and scale leaves.
4. Development of heterosporous condition which further gave rise to seed habit in Gymnosperms and Angiosperms.
