Solution:

Progesterone hormone is secreted by corpus luteum. Corpus luteum is the remaining part of Graafian follicle, left after the release of ovum, (ovulation). Progesterone is essential for the maintenance of endometrial lining of uterus which is necessary for implantation of the fertilized ovum and other events of pregnancy.
