Jharkhand CECEJharkhand CECE 2004

Solution:

Progesterone is a steroidal hormone secreted by the corpus luteum (the ruptured Graafian follicle after ovulation) of the ovary. Progesterone stimulates further development of the uterine epithelium and mammary gland. It is also required for the formation of placenta and for maintenance of pregnancy. Secretion of progesterone from corpus luteum, is stimulated by luteinizing hormone (LH) of anterior pituitary. In absence of fertilization, LH level decreases, the corpus luteum (yellow body) begins to degenerate and changes into a white body, the corpus albicans. It causes deficiency of progesterone and leads to menstruation. Corpus callosum is the large bundle of myelinated fibres, connecting left and right hemispheres of cerebrum of human brain.
