Q. Plant cells can be converted to protoplasts by treating them with

Biotechnology : Principles and Processes

Solution:

A protoplast is a plant, bacterial or fungal cell that has had its cell wall (made from a variety of polysaccharides) completely or partially removed using either mechanical or enzymatic means. Generally this is accomplished with cell wall degrading enzymes like cellulase and pectinase (in plant cells), lysozyme (in bacterial cells) and chitinase (in fungal cells).
