Q. Pairing or synapsis between homologous chromosome occur during

J & K CETJ & K CET 2010Cell Cycle and Cell Division

Solution:

During zygotene of prophase-I, the synapsis (pairing/coming together) of homologous chromosomes takes place. During leptotene stage, individual chromosomes begin to condense into long strands within the nucleus. The pachytene stage contains the chromosomal crossover, non-sister chromatids of homologous chromosomes randomly exchange segments of genetic information over regions of homology. During the diplotene stage, the synaptonemal complex degrades and homologous chromosomes separates from one another a little.
