Q. Out of the following, which is the correct set of quantum number for the outermost electron of potassium atom$ (Z = 19)$?

J & K CETJ & K CET 2010Structure of Atom

Solution:

The electronic configuration of potassium is
${ }_{19} K=1 s^{2}, 2 s^{2}, 2 p^{6}, 3 s^{2}, 3 p^{6}, 4 s^{1}$
For $4 s^{1}$,
$n=4 l=0$
$(\because$ for s orbital, $l=0) m=0 s =-\frac{1}{2}$
