Q. Osmotic pressure of insulin solution at $298\, K$ is found to be $0.0072 \,atm$ . Hence, height of water column due to this pressure is [given $ d(Hg)=13.6g/mL $ ]

Bihar CECEBihar CECE 2013Solutions

Solution:

$p=0.0072 \,atm$
$=0.0072 \times 76 \,cm$ of $Hg$
$=0.0072 \times 76 \times 13.6\, cm$ of mercury column
Also, $p=h \times 1 \,cm$ of water column
$\therefore h \times 1=0.0072 \times 76 \times 13.6 \,cm$
or $h=7.4 \,cm$
