Q. Osmotic pressure of 40% (W/V) urea solution is 1.64 atm and that of 3.42% (W/V) cane sugar is 2.46 atm. When equal volumes of the above two solutions are mixed, the osmotic pressure of resulting solution is

Solution:

$\pi_{1} V _{1}+\pi_{2} V _{2}=\pi_{ R }\left( V _{1}+ V _{2}\right)$

$164 \times 1+2.46 \times 1=\pi_{ R } \times 2$

$\pi_{ R }=\frac{4.10}{2}$

$=2.05 \,atm$

Here, $\pi_{ R }=$ Osmotic pressure of resulting solution.
