EAMCETEAMCET 2004

Solution:

The formula of carnalite is $ \text{KCl}\text{.MgC}{{\text{l}}_{\text{2}}}\text{6}{{\text{H}}_{\text{2}}}\text{O}\text{.} $ In this formula only potassium gives colour (lilac) to flame, whereas magnesium does not give flame colouration.
