Q. One mole of the complex compound $Co \left( NH _{3}\right)_{5} Cl _{3}$, gives 3 moles of ions on dissolution in water. One mole of the same complex reacts with two moles of $AgNO _{3}$ solution to yield two moles of $AgCl (s)$. The structure of the complex is :

AIEEEAIEEE 2003Coordination Compounds

Solution:

$\left. Co \left( NH _{3}\right)_{5} Cl \right] Cl _{2} \rightleftharpoons \underbrace{\left[ Co \left( NH _{3}\right)_{5} Cl \right]^{2+}+2 Cl ^{-}}_{\text {three ions }}$

$\underset{\text { free 2 mol }}{2 Cl ^{-}}+\underset{\text{2 mol}}{{2 Ag ^{+} }} +\to \underset{\text{2 mol}}{{2AgCl}}$
