Q. One mole of an ideal gas requires 207 J heat to
rise the temperature by 10 K when heated at
constant pressure. If the same gas is heated at
constant volume to raise the temperature by the
same 10 K, the heat required is
(Given the gas constant R = 8.3 J/mole K)

AIPMTAIPMT 1990

Solution:

Using $C_P-C_V=R, $
$C_P $ is heat needed for raising by 10 K.
$\therefore \, \, \, \, C_P=20.7 \, J/mole \, K $
Given R = 8.3 J/mole K
$\therefore \, \, C_V=20.7-8.3=12.4 \, J/mole \, K $
$\therefore $ For raising by 10 K. = 124 J.
