Q.
One mole of a van der Waal's gas at $27^{\circ} C$ and $960 \,atm$ occupies $0.075\, L$. If $b=0.025 \,L\, mol ^{-1}$ then value of compressibility factor is
States of Matter
Solution:
$P _{\text {ideal }}(V-b)=R T$
$\Rightarrow P _{\text {ideal }}=\frac{0.08 \times 300}{0.075-0.025}$
$=\frac{24}{0.05}=480\, atm$
$\Rightarrow Z =\left[\frac{ P _{\text {real }}}{ P _{\text {ideal }}}\right]_{ T , V }=\frac{960}{480}=2$
