Q. On the basis of cranial capacity, which of the following fossil man is closest to the modern human?

NTA AbhyasNTA Abhyas 2020

Solution:

Cranial capacity is a measure of the volume of the brain. The cranial capacity of Neanderthal is 1650cc and of Homo sapiens is 1450cc. The cranial capacity of Java man and Peking man is 900cc and of Homo habilis is 800cc.
Over the evolutionary history of humans, there is an increase in cranial capacity, which is considered to be an added benefit of being the most evolved organism in the animal kingdom. Ape-man like Australopithecus had slightly bigger cranial capacity as compared to apes. Modern man has much higher cranial capacity.
