Q. On hydrolysis, which produces only glucose?

BVP MedicalBVP Medical 2004

Solution:

Maltose, gives only glucose, on hydrolysis as it is a disaccharide formed by 2 molecules of glucose. $ \underset{maltose}{\mathop{{{C}_{12}}{{H}_{12}}{{O}_{11}}}}\,\xrightarrow[{{H}^{+}}]{{{H}_{2}}O}2{{C}_{6}}{{H}_{12}}{{O}_{6}} $ Sucrose gives glucose and fructose, while galactose gives glucose and lactose, on hydrolysis.
