Q. Observe the following statements regarding purification of bauxite
(I) During Hall's process, silica, is removed as $Si$ (vapour).
(II)Bauxite ore contaminated with iron oxide is purified in Baeyer's process.
(III) During Serpeck's process silica, is removed as $Si$ (vapour).

General Principles and Processes of Isolation of Elements

Solution:

Hall process $Al _{2} O _{3}+ Na _{2} CO _{3} \longrightarrow 2 NaAlO _{2}+ CO _{2}$

Baeyer's process $Al _{2} O _{3}+2 NaOH +3 H _{2} O \longrightarrow 2 Na \left[ Al ( OH )_{4}\right]$

Sepeck's process $Al _{2} O _{3}+3 C + N _{2} \longrightarrow 2 AlN +3 CO$ and $SiO _{2}+2 C \longrightarrow Si + CO$
