I. PHBV
II. Nylon- $2$ -nylon-$6$
III. Glyptal
IV. Bakelite
Biodegradable polymer(s) from the above is/are

AP EAMCETAP EAMCET 2016

Solution:

The polymers that can be dissociated into small segments by enzymes (produced by microorganisms) are biodegradable polymers. Step growth polymers having functional groups may be biodegradable. $PHBV$ (poly-$\beta$-hydroxybutyrate-co-$\beta$-hydroxyvalerate) undergoes bacterial degradation in the environment. Nylon- $2$ -nylon-$6$ is an alternating polyamide co-polymer of glycine $\left( H _{2} N - CH _{2}- COOH \right)$ and aminocaproic acid $\left[ H _{2} N \left( CH _{2}\right)_{5} COOH \right]$ is a biodegradable polymer.
