Q. Nitrogen atom has an atomic number of $7$ and oxygen has an atomic number $8$ . The total number of electrons in anitrate ion will be

Structure of Atom

Solution:

Number of electrons in nitrogen = $7$ and number of electron in oxygen = $8$ we know that formula of nitrate ion is $NO_{3}^-$we also know that number of electron
= ($1 \times$ Number of electrons in nitrogen) + ( $3 \times$ number of electrons in oxygen) + $1$
= $(1 \times 7) + (3 \times 8) + 1 = 32.$
