During nitration benzene ring is attacked by $NO _{2}^{+}$and hydrogen of benzene ring is replaced by $NO _{2}$ group.
$\therefore $ Nitration of benzene is electrophilic substitution because $NO _{2}{ }^{+}$is an electrophile.
