Q. Naphthalene is a/an:

AFMCAFMC 2004

Solution:

Molecular crystals may be polar molecular crystal (held together by weak polar forces) or non polar molecular crystals (held together by weak van der Waal forces). Naphthalene is a nonpolar type molecular crystal. van der Waal forces increase with molecular size. This is the reason why iodine is solid while bromine is a liquid and chlorine is a gas. Naphthalene sublimes easily.
