Q. $NaClO_{3}$ is used in spacecraft to produce $O_{2}$ . The daily consumption of pure $O_{2}$ by a person is $492L$ at $1atm,$ $300K.$ How much amount of $NaClO_{3}$ (in grams) is required to produce $O_{2}$ for the daily consumption of a person at $1atm,$ $300K?$
$\left(NaClO\right)_{3}\left(s\right)+Fe\left(s\right) \rightarrow O_{2}\left(g\right)+NaCl\left(s\right)+FeO\left(s\right)$
Given: $R=0.082Latmmol^{- 1}K^{- 1}$

Solution:

Moles of $\text{NaCl}\text{O}_{3}=$ moles of $O_{2}$
moles of $O_{2}=\frac{\text{PV}}{\text{RT}}=\frac{1 \times 492}{0.082 \times 300}=20$ moles
As molecular mass of $\text{NaCl}\text{O}_{3}=106.5$
$\text{NaCl}\text{O}_{3}=20\times 106.5=\text{213}0\text{ g}$
