Q. $NaCl_(aq)$ gives a white precipitate with $AgNO_{3}$ solution but $CCl_{4}$ or $CHCl_{3}$ does not, because

Chemical Bonding and Molecular Structure

Solution:

$NaCl$ being an ionic compound and thus reacts with $AgNO_{3}{(aq)}$ to give ionic reaction, forming $AgCl$ as white ppt. $CCl_{4}$ and $CHCl_{3}$ being covalent do not furnish $Cl^{-}$ ions in solution.
$NaCl + AgNO_3\rightarrow AgCl + NaNO_3$
