Solution:

In the Japanese coastal town of Minamata, an illness began to occur in birds, cats and particularly families of fisherman in 1953. The symptoms in affected people were fatigue, numbness in arms and legs, some complained of a metallic taste in their mouths and they also suffered from diarrhoea. Eventually a number of people died. Minamata disease occurs due to mercury poisoning.
