Microscopic examination of blood smear reveals an abnormal increase in neutrophils. Neutrophils have a multilobed nucleus and granulated cytoplasm. Their number increases in blood in response of bacterial infection, acute inflammation and Eclampsia. Neutrophils are produced by hematopoiesis in the bone marrow and are active phagocytic cells. Lymphocytes are white blood cells which occurs in blood, lymph and lymphoid organs. Monocytes are mononuclear phagocytic cells. Platelets are known as thrombocytes and helps in blood clotting.
