The process of formation of megaspore from megaspore mother cell is called megasporogenesis. Ovules generally differentiates single megaspore mother cell in the micropylar region. It is large cell with prominent nucleus and dense cytoplasm, it undergoes meiotic division to form four megaspore, three of which degenerates and only one remains functional.
