Solution:

The larynx is a voice box which is made up of nine cartilages. One such cartilage is the epiglottis. Larynx connects the pharynx with trachea i.e. windpipe. Epiglottis is a flap-like cartilage that prevents entry of food into the trachea as it covers the opening i.e. glottis of the windpipe. (Epi means above and glottis is opening of wind pipe).
