Q. Mark the correct statement.

Molecular Basis of Inheritance

Solution:

When a particular gene codes for a $m RNA $ strand, it is said to be monocistronic or monogenic. When several genes (cistrons) are transcribed into a single $m RNA$ molecule, it is described as polycistronic or polygenic. Monocistronic $m RNA$ codes for one complete protein molecule while polycistronic $m R N A$ codes for a number of protein molecules. Eukaryotic $m R N A$ is usually monocistronic. Polycistronic $m R N A$ is more common in prokaryotes.
