Q. Magnetic susceptibility for a paramagnetic and diamagnetic materials is respectively

MHT CETMHT CET 2018Magnetism and Matter

Solution:

The magnetic susceptibility of a magnetic substance is defined as the ratio of intensity of magnetisation (I) to magnetic intensity (H), i.e.
$x=\frac{I}{H}$
For paramagnetic material, $\chi$ is positive and small $(0<\chi<\varepsilon)$, where $\varepsilon$ is small positive number.
For diamagnetic meterial, $\chi$ is negative and small $(-1 \leq \chi \leq 0)$
