Q. Magnetic moment of ${Cr}(Z=24), Mn ^{+}(Z=25)$ and $Fe ^{2+}(Z=26)$ are $x, y, z$. They are in order

The d-and f-Block Elements

Solution:

Magnetic moment $\mu=\sqrt{N(N+2)}$ BM
Where, $N=$ unpaired electrons
${Cr}(24)[ Ar ] 3 d^5 4 s^1 \,\,\, N=6, \mu=\sqrt{48} BM =x$
$Mn ^{+} \,\,\,[ Ar ] 3 d^5 4 s^1 \,\,\, N=6, \mu=\sqrt{48} BM =y$
$Fe ^{2+} \,\,\,[ Ar ] 3 d^6 \,\,\, N=4, \mu=\sqrt{24} BM =z$

Thus, $z< x=y$
