: Macronutrients (macroelements, required in large amounts) are essential elements which occur in concentration of about 1.0 mg per gram of dry matter. The macron utrients are carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium, calcium, magnesium and sulphur. Three macronutrients i.e., carbon, hydrogen and oxygen constitute 96% of the dry matter of plants.
