$\displaystyle\lim _{x \rightarrow 0} \frac{1-\cos x}{x^{2}} $
$=\displaystyle\lim _{x \rightarrow 0} \frac{\sin x}{2 x} $ [using L' Hospital's rule]
$=\frac{1}{2}$
