Q. It has been observed that, colorless cells are modified from the adaxial epidermal cells of leaf in grasses. What are these modified cells called as?

NTA AbhyasNTA Abhyas 2022

Solution:

Bulliform cells spread around the leaf on the upper surface play a role for water storage. These cells assist during transpiration process to reduce water loss. During stress, these cells lose water causing the leaves to curl and prevent damage. They are commonly found in the grasses.
The bulliform cells absorb water and they become turgid and they are flaccid due to water stress, this make the leaves curl inwards to minimise water loss.
