Alkyl cyanide is prepared by reaction between alkyl halide $KCN$ but alkyl halide on reaction with $AgCN$ form alkyl isocyanide. $\underset{\text{alkyl halide}}{RX} + \underset{\text{silver cyanide}}{AgCN} \to \underset{\text{iso cyanide}}{R \equiv NC + Ag X}$
