Q.
Iodoform can be prepared from all except
Haloalkanes and Haloarenes
Solution:
Iodoform reaction is given by alcohols and ketones containing
$CH_{3} - \underset{\overset{|}{OH}}{CH} -and CH_{3} -\overset{\underset{||}{O}}{C}-$groups, respectively
Thus, among-the given compounds, isobutyl alcohol does not contain $CH_{3} - \underset{\overset{|}{OH}}{CH} -group.$
Hence, it does not give iodoform reaction on treatment with $L,/NaOH.$
Hence, compounds (a), (b) and (c) will give iodoform while compound (d) (isobutyl alcohol) does not give any iodoform reaction.
