Solution:
Sucrose is dextrorotatory but after hydrolysis gives dextrorotatory glucose and laevorotatory fructose. The hydrolysis of sucrose brings about a change in the sign of rotation from dextro (+) to laevo (-) and the product is named as invert sugar.
