Q. Inversion temperature for a thermocouple is the temperature at which thermo emf:

J & K CETJ & K CET 2001

Solution:

Inversion temperature is the temperature to which one junction of a thermocouple must be raised in order to make the thermoelectric electromotive force in the circuit equal to zero, when the other junction of the thermocouple is held at a constant low temperature. Hence, inversion temperature is the temperature at which the Joule-Thomson effect of a gas change sign.
