Solution:
Alien species invasions: The introduction of alien or exotic or non-native species into a certain geographical region leads to those species invading the location. These species are then referred to as invasive species, which eventually destruct the habitat, utilise the given resources and cause a decline of the indigenous species. They do so through altered biotic interactions, leading to the disappearance of native and indigenous species. Alien species may be introduced into the region unintentionally or deliberately for specific purposes.
A prominent example of alien species invasion was observed in Lake Victoria of East Africa. Introduction of a large predator fish called Nile perch resulted in the killing and elimination of an ecologically unique collection of more than 200 species of cichlid fish; these species were originally endemic to this freshwater aquatic system.
The invasion of alien species is considered to be one of the major causes of biodiversity loss in the world.
