: Inside a cell the respiratory enzymes are contained in mitochondria. All enzymes of respiratory chain (electron transport system) and oxidative phosphorylation are present on the cristae. Mitochondrial matrix has all enzymes of Krebs cycle. Because of the enzymes located on the cristae carry out the energy-yielding steps of aerobic metabolism. Therefore mitochondria are called as the powerhouse of the eukaryotic cells.
