Q. Insectivorous plant eats the insect for

BHUBHU 2008

Solution:

Insectivorous plants are autotrophic in their mode of nutrition but they grow in marshy or muddy soils, which are generally deficient in nitrogen and in order to fulfil their nitrogen requirements these plants catch small insects. These plants have glands secreting proteolytic enzymes, which break own complex proteins into simple nitrogenous substances, which inturn are absorbed by these plants, eg, Drosera, Utricularia, Nepenthes, Dionaea etc.
