A transgenic organism is an organism which contains a foreign gene. Such organisms are also called GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms), e.g., transgenic plant-Bt cotton. This cotton plant has a foreign gene for insect resistance from a bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis.
