Q. Inert pair effect is predominant in

JamiaJamia 2010

Solution:

The reluctance of $ n{{s}^{2}} $ electron pair to participate in bond formation is called inert pair effect. Inert pair effect increases (ie, becomes more and more effective) as we move down the group. So the heavier elements of a group show predominantly inert pair effect. Hence, it is predominant in lead (Pb).
