Q.
In Young's double slit experiment, on interference, ratio of intensities of a bright band and a dark band is $16: 1$. The ratio of amplitudes of interfering waves is
Wave Optics
Solution:
As, $\frac{I_{\max }}{I_{\min }}=\frac{(a+ b)^{2}}{(a-b)^{2}}=\frac{16}{1}$
$\therefore \frac{a +b}{a-b}=\frac{4}{1}$
$4 a-4 b=a+ b$
or $3 a=5 b \therefore \frac{a}{b}=\frac{5}{3}$
